It's Christmas Eve and we have snow...how exciting !!!!!!! It is so beautiful outside this time of the year when we get snow.

It's been just to cold for most of us,but the last two days have warmed up just enough to warm our bones for a while. Been working hard at keep the ice away from the walkway for everyone. Can you believe we have just 14 more days till Christmas? The year of 2010 has flown by and each and everyone of you has made it a fantastic year for the shop...We greatly appreciate at each and every one of you.
We will be Closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and be back on Tuesday December 28th.
As for ringing in the new year, we will close New Years Eve at 3p.m. and be closed New Years Day and be open again Tuesday January 4th.
We are wishing you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy Healthy New Year for 2011.

We made it through the Thanksgiving Holiday with a few more pounds gained from the festivities and now on with the Christmas season. I'm hoping we get some snow for the holidays. Most of you would rather that white stuff stay away but you all now me by now, I love the snow this time of the year.
Got the decorations put up in the Barber Shop. Put some glitter in the Shop window, the tree is in it's place and ready to shine.
The shop hours for Christmas will be posted on the door and on this blog for you all.

Well here we are into November already. About two weeks till Thanksgiving Day, and family, friends, and lots of great cooking!!!!
Six weeks till Christmas...The hustle and bustle of getting everyone a gift, I'm not one who likes that part of the Christmas Holiday...but it makes it much nicer if we have snow for the holiday season. I know I know not to many of you agree with me on the snow thing, but you do have to agree it makes Christmas feel like Christmas. I just love this time of the year if we have lots of snow with it!!!! Sorry just call me crazy!!!!

Well running late again on posts...sorry! But it's nice to see so many of you checking in with our blog now and then.
Been seeing lots of new faces and lots of "long time no see" faces have been coming in.
How wonderful it is to visit with all my long time customers from the other shop. I'm glad you all are finding me, word of mouth is a wonderful thing!!!!
We are into cooler weather and I am loving it, after such a hot humid summer. Hope everyone stays well through the weather change. Halloween is upon us and the kids are getting a little excited to do the trick or treating. I will have some special treats for all of the little ones on Friday and Saturday.Looking forward to see the Little goblins!!!!

Hello everyone.
Hope your all enjoying the cooler weather, It's been really nice to be out side more and not be so hot.
The shaving station is almost finished, we have the sink in with hot water,the hot towel warmer,and it's ready to go. Still have to finish up the front of the station and close it in but it's working and that's all that counts for all of you who have been waiting patiently for the razor shaves.

Well first I want to thank all my loyal customers for understanding that life gets in the way of work sometimes. I closed the past two Saturday's for family occasions and bless you all for waiting for me. Your loyalty is greatly appreciated.
We have started the process of putting in the shaving station and it should be up and running by the 30th of August. I know a lot of you have been waiting patiently for those straight razor shaves,with the hot towel treatment. I must say I too have been anxiously waiting to get it put together. I underestimated the time for completion.

My Father in Law was my biggest fan and supporter as I went through Barber College. Always letting me practice on him when ever I need to learn a new technique in school. One Morning while reading the paper he found this cartoon. He cut it from the paper..(I'm sure he was smiling while doing the cutting),With a smile on his face, he handed it to me. Well the other day while going through my tub of barber goodies and keepsakes I ran across that clipping and thought I would share it with all of you. I hope it makes you smile as it did me. I can still see that smile on his face and the little giggle he did as he handed it to me. I miss him and his little giggles!!

Well for those of you who don't know we will be closed Saturday August the 14 Th and Saturday August the 21st for family functions we have to attend.
Both Friday August 13 and August the 20 the shop will close at 4:00p.m.
I hope this does not inconvenience any of you .
I will be in the shop through the week on regular hours.
We have been working hard at getting everything needed to finish the shaving station for our customers who have been interested in shaves. We are so looking forward to adding the service for you. Nothing better than a relaxing, warm, close shave.

Well I don't no about the rest of you but I'm ready for fall. Cooler weather would be so nice to have. I hope you are making it through the heat fine and are taking it easy when doing your yard work. Remember to drink your water and keep yourself hydrated when outside.

Well here I am again and behind in my postings. Shame on me!!!
Can You believe today it is 90+ outside! Yuck!!!! Wasn't ready for this hot stuff yet.
Sure bets freezing though. Even though I love the snow!!!
Lets start with Memorial Day week end sneaking up on us.
Regular hours Tuesday thru Thursday and Friday we will close at 3:30p.m..
The shop will be closed on Saturday May 29Th. It's our Best fishing week end of the year.
Hope all of you have a safe and fun Memorial Day week end. Get those grills fired up.
We will be open again on Tuesday June 1 at 9:00 a.m.
Vacation time is rolling around. I have plans of taking a week off at the end of June.
this will be from June 20Th to June 28Th.
I will be back in on June 29Th at 9:00 a.m.
I thank you for understanding a vacation from work comes in nicely once a year.

Tessa our message Therapist is working on getting her area set up for all those relaxation message for you. We have added a counter in the little area off to the right of the door where we can take our lunch, read the news paper or just visit. I'm in the process of refinishing three bar stools to set up at the counter.
This next week I'm hoping to start on getting the shampoo and shaving station put in. I was wanting it in before now but you know how some plans go. So for those of you who want the shaves, I hope you will have some patience with the construction.

We are into the warm weather starting, it's a little to warm for me at this time of the year but,I'll take it after the cold winter we had. Everything is green now and the trees are really getting their leaves. It's so beautiful this time of the year.
We have started the add on's in the shop getting ready for Tessa our Message therapist to start relaxing us after our busy week ends coming up soon.
The shampoo and shaving area should be up and running also as planned.
Thanks to all who have helped make this possible. We are looking forward to this next year, and many more to come.

hello everyone! Sorry I've been a slacker for not keeping up with my shop blog. I can't believe I missed the whole month of March for any posts. I guess just not much to write about.
I know all of you are thankful for the warmer weather. I am also. the trees are all budding out, the only thing bad with this time of year is allergies. If you suffer with them...Your not alone, I'm right here with you. If you don't suffer with them you are very fortunate and blessed.
The year is starting off good at the shop. Thanks for all the referrals they are greatly appreciated!
Tessa, the message therapist will be setting up in June. She comes in now and then to give messages. It's great that she is here, everyone will need her with the spring yard work giving us all those sore muscles. If your interested in a message just call the shop and check when she is in and get a great relaxing message.
My carpenter is getting materials together to get the shaving area in. Hopefully it will be ready to go in the next month or so.
I hope to see you at the shop and I will try to do better at posting on our blog.

Well here we are a day away from March!!! Thank goodness February is over, now on to a little warmer weather. I've worked hard on trying to keep the entrance to the shop ice free this past months. Some days felt like a never ending battle and some days were. I hope I won't have to worry about any of you falling until next years freeze now that March is upon us.
I want to thank all of you who have made my first year in the new shop a big success. It is nice to meet all the new faces and get to know you and your families. It's been fantastic to see all my dedicated faithful customers who followed me to my new location. I am looking forward to 2010,and getting to know you all even better. We should have some more drawings for prizes and lots of fun through out the year.

Long-time barber celebrates one year in business in East Peoria

Camila VanOppen will celebrate one year in business Feb. 7.
VanOppen, 51, operates Camila’s Barber Shop 1818B Meadows Ave., East Peoria.
Although she is celebrating one year of business in East Peoria, VanOppen has been a barber for 25 years.
Initially, she worked out of her home and then worked at a business in Pekin for 12 years.
When her father-in-law was diagnosed with cancer,
VanOppen decided she wanted to be closer to home.
"This place came for rent and now I’m here," VanOppen said, adding that many of her customers followed her to the new location.
Now that she has made the jump as an independent business owner, VanOppen said, "I should have done it a long time ago."
VanOppen said she decided to get into the barber business because she likes the techniques of barbering.
She learned those techniques at Peoria Barber College and graduated in 1984.
Another aspect she favors is talking with and meeting people.
"You get to know ‘em — the ones that come to you all the time, they get to be like family," VanOppen said.
The relationships VanOppen has developed with her customers over the years made her want to do something special for them in conjunction with her anniversary. 
To celebrate one year in business, VanOppen hosted a drawing for a pair of tickets to the Rams and 49ers game Jan. 3. Customer Robert Mosier of East Peoria won the tickets.
Having mostly male clientele, VanOppen said she thought a football game would be appropriate.
In her conversations with the men she gives haircuts to, she said they talk about sports, hunting and funny stories.
"They crack you up," she said.
VanOppen will host an open house from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Feb. 12 at her business.
A free drawing for a gift basket for a "Valentine Night to Remember" will take place.
Free 15-minute massages will be provided from noon to 5 p.m. Avon and valentine chocolates by Isn’t That Sweet will also be on display.
VanOppen said she plans to add a massage therapist to her business in May or June and a second barber.
Military cuts and flat tops are offered at the business, where it is "walk-ins only."
